Studies have highlighted the political, economic, and psychological factors in the debate over anthropogenic climate change—a hegemony approach—but have rarely focused on the stories and possibilities of people's transitions from climate change non‐believer to climate change believer. Based on publicly accessible narratives, this study examines the stories of those who have switched from non‐believer to believer—a narrative approach—and the dilemmas involved in those switches. Our investigation illuminates that a transition to climate change believer is a cultural and moral matter based on changing social relations of knowledge and what people regard as ignorable. We find that narratives of transition commonly describe interrelated shifts in three social relational factors: the narrator's notions of self, material reality, and justice. We term this contextualized transformative experience a relational rupture. Our narrative approach thus contextualizes climate change denialism within a person's web of social relations, not the hegemony of climate change communication alone. Moreover, we suggest that, since public debate and polarization on scientific topics such as climate change, vaccination, and COVID‐19 are socially situated, they may potentially be socially bridged.

The news about the “forced” hijab for non-Muslim students at SMKN 2 Padang was crowded and became a national conversation. The mass media examines it from various sides with different emphases and approaches, one of which is the national media Metro TV. This study aims to see the construction and discourse built by Metro TV news that raised the case using the Critical Discourse Analysis, Teun van Dijk. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a critical paradigm. The study results show that Metro TV news considers the case part of intolerance, so the existing rules must be revised. The power used by Metro TV through the media channels is used to present two sources with different views. However, questions and conveying Metro TV's opinions led to the agreement that this case was part of the error in the regulations of the local government and the school.Keywords: Critical discourse analysis, Teun A. The structure of and recent transformations in science affect the structure of the academic field, and ultimately the actors themselves: Today, academics often experience pressure, stress, and emotional discomfort. In this contribution, we show how emotions such as fear and concern may arise in reaction to the contemporary conditions of academic life, and how these emotions can operate as elements of the hierarchies between human actors (scientists) and institutional actors (universities). Using qualitative interview data with scholars from the United States, we illustrate how fear structures the actors' social practices-and how fear is thereby translated into the positional structure of the academic field. We discuss two sets of relations-intraand inter-institutional-that entail structuring mechanisms. We thus attest how fear as an individual trait and social characteristic becomes part of the (re-)production of the fields' hierarchy.
