Postcolumn determination of polyphenolic antioxidants in Cirsium vulgare (Savi) Ten. extracts

Abstract: Novel methods for the determination of polyphenolic antioxidants present in extracts from inflorescences of Cirsium vulgare (Savi) Ten. based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array and chemiluminescence detection have been developed. Under the optimized conditions of chromatographic separation the analytical characteristic of the method was performed. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of ten polyphenols present in inflorescences of Cirsium vulgare.… Show more

“…Based on its MS information and its main fragments yielded at m/z 268 and 269 corresponding to apigenin, it was tentatively identified as apigenin-O-glucuronide methyl ester. Despite the fact that it has not been previously reported in the Globulariaceae family, this compound has been characterised in other plant samples 48. The same occurred with peak 97 which was identified in the two samples for the first time as an apigenin derivative, and it was tentatively characterised as tri-O-methylvitexin.…”

“…Cirsium vulgare is a common plant belonging to Asteraceae family whose main components are flavonoids and phenolic acids 137 . The effects of a C. vulgare hydroethanolic extract (200-1000 μg/mL) and its main component, di- (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (100-600 μM) have been investigated on the proliferation and pluripotency of neonatal rat hippocampus-derived NSCs.…”

“…Chlorogenic acid (CA) is widely distributed in plants, fruits, and vegetables [ 26 ], and has been reported to exhibit various health benefits, having antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticardiovascular, and anticancer properties [ 17 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ]. In particular, CA is involved in a comprehensive antioxidation mechanism, directly scavenging free radicals by its polyhydroxy structure, and activating the oxidative signaling pathway by regulating gene expression and endogenous oxidase systems [ 30 ].…”
