Urban water is one of the most important natural resources to support urban growth. However, conflicting interests from different sectoral needs interfere with its management as the demand for water increases as a result of rapid urbanization. This paper compares the theory and practice of urban water governance, particularly the extent to which the concept of urban water governance can be implemented in Surakarta, Indonesia. The paper also provides lessons for practitioners. This study applies a qualitative single case study method using in-depth interviews with eight key players from eight institutions related to urban water governance. The respondents represent the local Planning Agency, Public Works Agency, Local Water Utility, Environmental Agency, Disaster Mitigation Agency, Housing Agency, the Regional Water Cooperation Body, and the Provincial Water Resources Management Agency. Surakarta is a rapidly growing medium-sized city that faces the challenge of urban clean water provision. The results indicate that although to a certain extent a gap between theory and practice exists, all the interviewed stakeholders have realized and have started initiating collaborations in urban water management. The most important point forward is to establish an effective regular platform for more solid collaboration to attain integrated urban water governance for Surakarta.

Drought and landslide disasters in Magelang Regency have moved people in Margoyoso Village and Sambak Village to carry out adaptation and mitigation activities as responses to the vulnerability experienced. The Government of Magelang Regency, strengthening climate grassroots movements through the Kampung Iklim Program by encouraging the involvement of stakeholders at the cross-level to support ProKlim activities. The research was conducted on October 13, 2021, until January 4, 2022. This research uses a qualitative method, to reveal and understand the implementation of ProKlim's communication strategy based on the information, views, and experiences of key informants. The results show that the implementation of the ProKlim communication strategy in Magelang Regency is carried out through actions of effective communication that synergize elements of advocacy, social mobilization, and participation. Strengthening the local people community, has encouraged community participation and behavior change at the individual level.

The waste generated in tourist villages is not only from household activities but also from tourism activities. If not managed wisely, it can effect on health and the surrounding environment and are usually thrown away without a chance to return to the economy. The waste management system in the Lerep Tourism Village has started paying attention to the concept of sustainability and being integrated by empowering the community through BUMdes to achieve zero plastic. This article aims to explore the efforts of the community of this village in managing waste of tourism and domestic activities. This research applied a qualitative study by interviewing the key informants in this village, The villagers reduce the use of plastic in one of the tourist attractions, namely the rural culinary market by replacing plastic containers with leaf containers. Other efforts made such as early segregation of waste by residents from their respective homes, reducing burning waste, provision of 3R facility and waste banks to recycle waste become a more economical product. These efforts not only have an impact on quality environment, but also on the community’s economy where the results of waste banks are able to help people pay health insurance.
