Precision Measurement Method of Large Shaft Diameter Based on Dual Camera System

Abstract: At present, there is a problem that the measurement accuracy and measurement range cannot be balanced in the measurement of shaft diameter by the machine vision method. In this paper, we propose a large-scale shaft diameter precision measurement method based on a dual camera measurement system. The unified world coordinate system of the two cameras is established by analyzing the dual camera imaging model and obtaining the measurement formula. In order to verify the validity of the proposed method, two black b… Show more

“…Given the measurement range of diameters from 600 mm to 800 mm, the projection method is unsuitable for measurement. Therefore, an improved method based on a dualfield-of-view optical path with dual CCDs is proposed [15], as illustrated in Figure 2. The system comprises five main components: illumination, the object under measurement, reception, signal processing, and actuation.…”

“…However, random errors in a single measurement are still a significant concern. Li et al [ 17 ] proposed a precise measurement method for large shaft diameters using a dual-telecentric camera-based measurement system. They developed a calibration method for two telecentric cameras based on Zhang’s calibration method [ 18 ] and established a common world coordinate system for the two cameras using the dual-camera imaging model.…”

“…This group includes crankshafts of power engines of a ship's main propulsion machinery as well as auxiliary engines and generator sets. The accuracy of crankshafts [1][2][3][4][5] largely determines the correct functioning of the crank-piston system and, as a result, of the whole working machine [6][7][8][9].…”
