Predictive modeling for overall thermal sensation of vehicle occupants based on local thermal sensation when warming up

Abstract: At present, the existing predictive models of overall thermal sensation cannot accurately evaluate occupants’ feelings under vehicle cabin conditions. In this work, aiming at the overall thermal sensation evaluation of vehicle occupants in winter heating condition, the interrelations between the occupants’ local thermal sensations and the overall thermal sensation are analyzed using the experimental results of physical tests. It reveals that the overall thermal sensation is significantly affected by the local … Show more

“…2,7 32 and 16°C are common temperature conditions for cooling/ heating in southern China, causing the hot/cold sensations in thinly clothed humans. 11 The temperature conditions ensure that different levels of thermal sensation data can be collected. 22,23 Subjects develop neutral, hot, or cold sensations sequentially over time in the designed experimental environment.…”

“…10 Therefore, several studies examined changes in human thermal sensation during dynamic environmental conditions. He et al 11 used a machine learning approach to map the local and overall thermal sensation relationships during a dynamic warming process. Wang et al 12 analyzed the thermal sensation vote and human objective parameters in a temperature drop gradient and pointed out the possibility of skin heat flow as a thermal sensation indicator for a dynamic environment.…”

“…The results of experiments on the assessment of the system operation of thermal comfort provision taking into account the creation of natural ventilation in the passenger compartment under high ambient temperatures are presented in paper [19]. The works devoted to experimental studies of the passenger compartment heating system of the wheeled vehicle under the effect of low temperatures include the paper [20]. However, the number of such studies is signifi cantly less in compari-son with the studies in the area of investigating high-temperature exposure.…”

“…One of the tasks that are solved by experimental studies of thermal comfort regulation in the passenger compartment is to determine the actual values of the initial and boundary conditions of mathematical models for their further computer-based numerical solution, taking into account the subjective perception of microclimate parameters by humans, as is proven in paper [21]. Researches [20,22,23,24,34] involve the study of functioning thermoregulation mechanisms of the human body and its reaction to the heating and cooling microclimate, such as the model of thermoregulation developed in The University of California, Berkeley (UCB) and the multisegmental (MS) Pierce model, as well as in the compartment of the wheeled vehicle, according to papers [25,26]. The purpose of these studies is to improve methodologies for objective evaluation of subjective perceptions caused by the effect of working microclimate parameters.…”
