“…Oligochaeta were usually found in wells (Hrabĕ, 1942;Řeháčková, 1953;Ronneberger, 1975;Skalski, 1982;Boutin and Boulanouar, 1984;Terek and Brázda, 1986;Boulal et al, 1997;Dumnicka, 2000;Hahn and Matzke, 2005;Hahn and Fuchs, 2009;Griebler et al, 2010;Zébazé Togouet et al, 2011;Lagnika et al, 2014;Nkemegni et al, 2015), but rarely did this group dominate, as was found by Zébazé Togouet et al (2009) and in this study. Oligochaeta are classical among the benthic organisms, which explains why they dominated in wells with a thick layer of sediment.…”

“…However, in areas without caves or in areas with relict caves that are situated in the vadose zone, wells (created for agricultural and domestic use or for monitoring purposes) have been used to sample aquatic subterranean fauna. The most numerous faunal studies in such wells were performed in northern, western, and central African countries (Boutin and Boulanouar, 1984; Boulal et al, 1997; Zébazé Togouet et al, 2009, 2011; Lagnika et al, 2014; Nkemegni et al, 2015), in which mostly endemic stygobiontic fauna representatives have been found. In Central Europe, invertebrates in wells were studied in the former Czechoslovakia (Hrabĕ, 1942; Terek and Brázda, 1986, 1998), although sometimes only crustaceans were investigated in detail (Řeháčková, 1953; Kulhavý, 1960).…”
