Preparation and application of organic‐silica hybrid monolithic capillary columns

Abstract: Organic-silica hybrid monolithic columns have drawn more and more attention due to the ease of preparation and good mechanical stability in recent years. Many synthetic approaches have been developed and a variety of hybrid monolithic capillary columns have been prepared. The sol-gel process is well recognized in the fabrication of hybrid monolithic columns, which can be mainly classified as one-step, acid/base two-step procedures. The new approaches such as the ''one-pot'' and nano-scaled inorganicorganic hyb… Show more

“…The approach to prepare organic-silica hybrid monoliths generally makes use of sol-gel chemistry [39]. Meanwhile, an inorganic-organic hybrid monolithic column was simply fabricated by using a POSS reagent containing several methacrylate groups as crosslinker via free radical polymerization [36].…”

“…Many hybrid monoliths have been used as stationary phases for CLC or CEC separation, as well as for sample pretreatment [34][35][36]. To the best of our knowledge, however, few hybrid monoliths were applied for preparation of CSPs.…”

“…Nevertheless, the complicated and difficult preparation process, nonspecific adsorption caused by Si-OH, and a narrow pH working range limit their applications. Organic-silica hybrid monoliths have the combined advantages of the two abovementioned types, including ease of preparation, good mechanical stability, good pH stability, and high surface area [17,18], and thus have attracted great attention in recent years.…”
