Preparation and characterization of ceramic nanofiltration membrane prepared from hazardous industrial waste

Abstract: Kiln rollers, which are widely used in ceramic tiles production, are usually subjected to surface grinding to remove the contaminations. The resulted fine powder is considered useless waste and a hazardous source of environmental pollution particularly as it contains health‐threatening fine free silica. In the present paper, the grind waste from kiln rollers was reused as raw material in the fabrication of nanofiltration ceramic membrane. The samples of produced ceramic membranes were formed into disks by addi… Show more

“…In addition, for these membranes sintering temperatures are high [24]. Among these expensive materials, alumina powder and a large amount of heat required for high sintering temperatures make ceramic membranes expensive [6]. It is stated that when ceramic membrane prices are provided between $500/m 2 and $1000/m 2 , it will be possible to use it in industrial applications [31].…”

“…Nowadays, ceramic membranes are gaining the attention of many researchers and industrialists across the world due to their attractive properties such as high mechanical, chemical, and thermal stability, long life span, ease of cleaning, anti‐fouling property and durability. Ceramic membranes can also be synthesized with different porosity and pore size distribution to get the microfiltration, ultrafiltration, and nanofiltration membranes for various applications (Amin et al., 2020; Bakhtiari et al., 2011; Bazin et al., 2019; Emani et al., 2013; Fu et al., 2019; Ghosh et al., 2013; Hubadillah et al., 2016; Mouiya et al., 2019). Ceramic membranes are generally synthesized by using various industrial oxides such as, zirconia, titania, silica and alumina either individually or in combination.…”
