A silica-gel chemically modified with ethyl-2-benzothiazolylacetate (SiB) has been synthesized and characterized. The extractions towards Pb(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II) were carried out in batch extraction. The maximum extraction was found at pH > 4 within 10 min. The maximum adsorption capacities, evaluated from Langmuir's model were 221, 141, 13, 7 and 5 µmol g -1 for Pb(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Cd(II) and Ni(II), respectively. Home-made mini-columns were used in the flow system. The parameters that affected the extraction efficiency were explored. Sample volumes of 100.0 mL and 1% HNO3 of 5.0 mL as the eluent were employed under the optimized conditions. No interfering from Na + , K + , Mg 2+ , Ca 2+, Cl -and SO4 2-was observed. This modified silica gel was applied to preconcentrate Pb(II) and Cu(II) from spiked pond water, tap water and drinking water, giving high accuracy and precision. The method detection limits obtained from the desorbed metals determined by FAAS after preconcentration with SiB were 22 and 1 µg L -1 for Pb(II) and Cu(II), respectively.

Изучены некоторые параметры, влияющие на адсорб-ционную способность полученного материала по отношению к ртути, такие как рН, время кон-такта фаз, объем раствора и элюента, а также селективность сорбции в присутствии посторон-них ионов. Максимальная сорбционная емкость полученного силикагеля по отношению к ионам ртути при рН = 2 составила 0.48 ± 0.04 мМ/г. Изменение скорости пропускания (от 0.5 мл/мин (0.25 см/мин) до 6 мл/мин (3.2 см/мин)) как и увеличение объема пропускаемого раствора от 50 мл до 2000 мл для уровней концентраций 0.0125, 0.0375 и 0.075 мМ/л не влияет на сте-пень извлечения ртути. Количественной десорбции ртути можно добиться при использовании 5 мл 6 М НСl. В выбранных условиях концентрирования ртути присутствие в растворе Fe , Ni 2+ и Cd 2+ в n•10 2 мольных избытках не влияет на степень её извлечения. Preconcentration of Total Mercury from River Water by Anion Exchange Mechanism

A simple and cheap analytical technique was developed for the measurement of total mercury in river water samples using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). It is based on the direct complexation of mercury ions using iodide and a cationic surfactant in water for its subsequent solid-phase extraction. Mercury ions are retained on the silica phase as ion pairs in the presence of iodide ions and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide. Parameters having influential influence on the retention of Hg(II) were investigated: sample flowrate, eluent type, sample volume, iodide and surfactant concentrations. The retained mercury ions are stripped off from silica phase using 10 mL of 8 mol L -1 HNO3 and quantified by ICP-MS. An enrichment factor of 50 was achieved with a maximum adsorption capacity of 718 μg Hg(II) g -1 . The limit of detection of Hg(II) was 8 pg mL -1 . The developed method was applied for the determination of total mercury in river and tap-water samples.
