Prevalence of Avian Influenza Virus Subtype H5n1 in Waterfowl in West Java Province of Indonesia

Abstract: e127 are commonly associated with neonatal diarrhea and dysentery in calves. It is important to determine minimal inhibitory concentrations(MICs) for the treatment of animals including human with E. coli infections. A total of 160 strains from 158 diarrheic cattle(1 day to 11 years old) were examined between April 1999 and December 2001 in Japan. The isolates were tested about characteristic pathogenic genes (stx 1 , stx 2 , and eaeA) by polymerase chain reaction. Pathogenic E. coli were tested in vitro for th… Show more

“… 53 AIV subtype H5N1 was introduced to Indonesia on multiple occasions. 62 The virus was likely propagated by wild migratory birds, as well as through trade and transportation of poultry and poultry products between different places. 63 , 64 A higher level of backyard poultry contact is likely linked to the nature and purpose of visits, which disclose additional farm-to-farm and farm-to-live bird market tours aimed at observing birds or acquiring live birds and items.…”

“…Leekaew et al (2008) In this study, ducks (Anseriformes) might determine the role of waterfowl as a natural reservoir for avian influenza (AI) virus. Susanti, Soejoedono, Mahardika and Wibawan (2008a) state that waterfowl is allegedly act as a natural reservoir for avian influenza (AI) virus subtype H5N1, as evidenced by the high prevalence of H5N1 infection in the unvaccinated healthy waterfowl. Waterfowl has reported to have no experience in pain, paralysis and death even though they are infected with AI virus subtype H5N1 which is shown to be molecularly and biologically pathogenic (Susanti, Soejoedono, Mahardika, & Wibawan, 2008b).…”
