“…Historically, Hispanics have been underrepresented in both PD 15 and genomic research 16 even as PD genetic testing increases in the U.S. and globally. This cross-sectional, mixed-methods study aimed to assess general and PD genetics knowledge, attitude toward genetic testing, and interest in genetic testing and counseling among a group of Hispanics in the DR, where the prevalence of PD was recently estimated to be 2.1% 14 .…”

“…To our knowledge, no studies have focused on Hispanics within Latin America, or even more broadly across Hispanics living in the U.S. The primary aim of this crosssectional, mixed-methods study was to assess these factors in Hispanic PwP and their at-risk relatives in the Dominican Republic (DR) where access to clinical genetic services is limited 13 despite the prevalence of PD being 2.1% among this population 14 . An understanding of this population's knowledge, attitudes, and interests could further emphasize the need for clinical genetic services in the DR and inform culturally tailored genetic counseling as the profession expands to this region.…”

“…The sample size of 31 was obtained with a 2% prevalence of PD, a confidence interval of 95%, and a 5% margin of error. 6 After obtaining the institutional ethical committee approval (ECR/270/Inst./20022014), Thirty patients with idiopathic PD and 30 healthy volunteers were included in the study. Patients with Parkinson’s plus syndrome, conductive hearing loss, tinnitus, and patients on labyrinthine sedatives were excluded from the study.…”
