Bioreduction of silver ions following one pot process is described to achieveRheum rhabarbarum(RR) based silver nanoparticles (SNPs) which is termed as “RR-SNPs.” The Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–vis) confirms the characteristic surface plasmon resonance band for RR-SNPs in the range of 420–460 nm. The crystalline nature of SNPs was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) peaks at 38.2°, 45.6°, 64.2°, and 76.8°. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) confirm the shape of synthesized SNPs. They are roughly spherical but uniformly distributed, and size varies from 60 to 80 nm. These biogenic SNPs show persistent zeta potential value of 34.8 mV even after 120 days and exhibit potent antibacterial activity in presence ofEscherichia coli(CCM 4517) andStaphylococcus aureus(CCM 4516). In addition, cytotoxicity of RR-SNPs againstin vitrohuman epithelial carcinoma (HeLa) cell line showed a dose-response activity. The lethal concentration (LC50) value was found to be 28.5 μg/mL for RR-SNPs in the presence of HeLa cells. These findings help us to evaluate their appropriate applications in the field of nanotechnology and nanomedicine.

The most common cause of urinary tract infections (UTI) is uropathogenic Escherichia coli, which is often resistant to antibiotics. E. coli can form biofilms on urinary catheters. The biofilm protects E. coli against various factors. In this study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPS) were synthesized using Trifolium pratense L. extract as a reducing agent. The AgNPs were characterized by visible UV spectroscopy, a diffraction pattern (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDX). The AgNPs had a spherical shape with an average particle of 19 nm. Biological properties were also evaluated using biofilm inhibition, anticancer, antimicrobial activity. The brine shrimp lethality assay was applied to evaluate the anticancer activity of the nanoparticles. The silver nanoparticles with LC50 (1.3 μg/ml) had the highest cytotoxicity activity. The antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles was evaluated by the agar diffusion method, minimum inhibitory concentration, and minimum bactericidal concentration in the range of 1.00 to 0.0312 and 2.00 to 0.0312, respectively. The nanoparticles exhibited a high antimicrobial effect against human E.coli pathogenic strains isolated from Urinary Tract Infection. The effect of biofilm inhibition on antibiotic resistant clinical strains by silver nanoparticles showed that silver nanoparticles inhibited biofilm between 21.12 to 97.10%.

Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of common hospital-acquired bacteria causing nosocomial pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and intra-abdominal infections. The aim of this study is investigating the Modulation effect of Zinc Oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) against multidrug resistant K. pneumonia which was isolated from Respiratory Tract Infections (RTIs). The results of isolation and characterization of bacterial specimens showed that 20.81% of RTIs were Klebsiella pneumoniae. The strongest isolate showed resistant for most usable antibiotics selected. Simultaneously, ZnO NPs were produced by an aqueous extract of Green Tea leaves as a reducing and stabilizer agent. The Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) spectrum was indicated a successful production of ZnO NPs at 383 nm. X-Ray Diffractometry (XRD) pattern showed peaks at 2Î¸ positions matching to standards and indicating a formation of hexagonal (wurtzite) shape of ZnO NPs, with an average size of 22nm. Fourier Transform- Infrared (FT-IR) spectra of ZnO NPs revealed the participating of Green Tea biomolecules in the synthesis process. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ZnO NPs against K. pneumoniae was 3.2 mg/mL. The results of using nanoparticles showed a morphological changing in K. pneumoniae colonies, and a modulation effect occurred against some antibiotic resistance of Klebsiella pneumoniae such as Gentamycin and Levofloxacin.
