Prognostic value of fluorine-18 fludeoxyglucose positron emission tomography parameters differs according to primary tumour location in small-cell lung cancer

Abstract: Objective: To investigate the prognostic value of fluorine-18 fludeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) parameters for small-cell lung cancer (SCLC), according to the primary tumour location, adjusted by conventional prognostic factors. Methods: From 2008 to 2013, we enrolled consecutive patients with histologically proven SCLC, who had undergone FDG-PET/CT prior to initial therapy. The primary tumour location was categorized into central or peripheral types. PET parameters and clinical variable… Show more

“…Out results showed that the majority of c-SCLC patients had nodal positive disease. Previous report showed that PET-CT was more sensitive than other imaging modalities with respect to the pretreatment staging of SCLCs (20,21). A retrospectively nationwide study showed that clinical stage had a poor consistency with pathological stage (9).…”

“…We reviewed the remaining full text for nine articles; one study that calculated the HRs by a 10‐cm 3 increase in MTV and TLG was excluded, while one study was excluded because it did not provide data for HRs and lacked sufficient information to enable a calculation of the HR with corresponding 95% CI . The remaining seven articles all conformed to the inclusion criteria and had sufficient information to allow calculation of HRs . Both MTV and TLG were measured in three studies .…”
