“…In the period after World War II, in the area of Central Lika, as well as in most mountainous and generally rural areas, there was a strong outflow of population from the countryside to cities; emigration for the purposes of temporary work abroad was also documented, especially of the younger vital and fertile population, which led to demographic aging and natural population decline. In the second half of the 20 th century, the area of Central Lika saw, therefore, a continuous reduction of total population (Pejnović, 1985;2004a;2004b;Štambuk, 1998;Turk, 2009;Živić, 2009;Turk et al, 2015).…”

“…Multiple demographic consequences of the war in Croatia (depopulation, war victims, indirect demographic losses, ethnic homogenization in favor of Croats, parallel processes of emigration and immigration, spatial polarization of the population, aging) have been the subject of many studies (Akrap, Gelo, and Grizelj 1999; Gelo 1999; Mišetić 2002; Babić 2003; Lajić 2004; Wertheimer-Baletić 2004; Ilić 2006; Pažanin 2006; Berber, Grbić, and Pavkov 2008; Lajić and Bara 2010; Turk, Simunic, and Jovanic 2015; Mrđen and Jurić 2018). These articles mainly dealt with general demographic analyzes or analyzes of certain structures at the level of the country, geographical regions, counties ( županije ), and lower administrative units.…”
