Pseudomonas Species as Producers of Eco-friendly Polyhydroxyalkanoates

Abstract: Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) have been produced by various bacteria as natural polymers stored in bacterial cells as a source of carbon and energy. They are currently preferred biomaterials for use in many industrial fields instead of conventional non-degradable plastics. Due to their unique properties they can reduce pollution caused by the increasing global polymer demand. Pseudomonas species have been chosen as PHAs producers in many recent studies. Being metabolically versatile and possessing a remarkable … Show more

“…MclPHAs are used as a source of chiral (R)-3-hydroxyalkanoic acids (R3HAs), which are precursors for the synthesis of value-added chemicals including antibiotics, pharmaceuticals, vitamins [300]. (R)-3-hydroxydecanoic acid obtained via polymer depolymerisation was conjugated to DP18 peptide and its derivatives containing D-amino acids and improved the anti-proliferation activity [31].…”

“…Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are microbial polyesters synthesized by both Gram-negative and Gram-positive eubacteria, and an increasing number of archaea isolated from environmentally extreme habitats, to increase their survival and competition in environments where carbon and energy sources are limited, such as soil and rhizosphere [1][2][3].…”

“…The PHA synthase (PhaC) catalyzes the polymerization process enabling the incorporation of different monomers in the polymeric chain of the polyoxoester, which finally results in distinct thermophysical attributes, thus expanding the number of products and application (Volova et al, 2017;Pacheco et al, 2019). Pseudomonas putida KT2440 is an archetype bacterium for the production of mcl-PHA Mozejko-Ciesielska et al, 2019), where their accumulation in the cell usually occurs under carbon excess accompanied by the limitation of inorganic compounds such as N, O 2 , or P (Prieto et al, 2016).…”
