Pulse dynamic patterns in a self-starting Mamyshev oscillator

Abstract: The pulse dynamics of a self-starting Yb-doped fiber Mamyshev oscillator without external seed pulses or additional starting arms is demonstrated experimentally. Multiple dynamic patterns of pulses, including single pulses, bound-state pulses, and harmonic mode-locking pulses, are observed at different pump powers and filter spectral separations. The generation and evolution of bound states have also been simulated by establishing the corresponding theoretical model. This is the first systematic theoretical an… Show more

“…The demonstrated multi-port real-time observation provides insights into exploring intracavity dynamics in various optical systems, which are helpful to understand the complex transient nonlinear dynamics in the cavity and complete the theories of soliton. On the other hand, it also has promise for studying how the solitons evolve between multiple states in other types of fiber lasers, such as Mamyshev oscillator 42 , bidirectional all-normal dispersion fiber laser 43 , and dissipative soliton resonance generation 44 .…”

“…Multiple dynamic patterns of pulses were observed including single pulses, bound pulses, and HML pulses at different pump powers and filter spectral separations. 73 Although self-starting is desirable in general, it requires NPE, which relies on non-PM fibers that are subject to environmental perturbations.…”

“…The starting of mode-locked operation could be triggered easily by adjusting the waveplates or just by increasing the pump power under suitable parameters of the waveplates and filter spectral separations. Multiple dynamic patterns of pulses were observed including single pulses, bound pulses, and HML pulses at different pump powers and filter spectral separations 73 . Although self-starting is desirable in general, it requires NPE, which relies on non-PM fibers that are subject to environmental perturbations.…”

“…As a result, they are susceptible to pulse instability and multiple pulses, [ 37 ] and their peak power is limited by the anti‐saturation absorption effect. [ 38 ] In addition, all of the SAs mentioned above have a common disadvantage in that their tolerance of nonlinear phase shift is limited, which restricts the generation of high‐peak‐power femtosecond pulses.…”
