“…Currently, cancer is mostly treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which have side effects on the body, so finding natural antitumor drugs would be a better option. In vitro studies found the protein hydrolysates and amino acids in silkworm pupae had anticancer effects and were cytotoxic to human stomach cancer cells, breast cancer cells, and liver cancer cells [ 33 , 44 , 46 ]. Both silkworm pupa protein and silkworm pupa oil were found to have anticancer activity.…”

“…GFAP is identified as a major intermediate filament protein in astrocytes 47 . IL‐6, IL‐1β and TNF‐α are pro‐inflammatory cytokines 48 . Here, we first discovered that MPTP injection into the mice increased the levels of IL‐6, IL‐1β, iNOS, COX‐2 and TNF‐α in nigra, whereas shikonin treatment restored the promotion in the levels of inflammatory cytokines and mediators.…”

We found that MPTP injection contributed to an irregular triangular shape, whereas shikonin treatment alleviated the changes.…”

“…Not only the actions of inhibiting cell proliferation and promoting apoptosis, but also other mechanisms have been proposed to explain the anti-tumor effect of SPPHs, such as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities [ 7 , 8 ]. Some researchers have tried to find the specific morphological changes of the apoptosis process.…”
