Pyramid-based image empirical mode decomposition for the fusion of multispectral and panchromatic images

Abstract: Image fusion is a fundamental technique for integrating high-resolution panchromatic images and low-resolution multispectral (MS) images. Fused images may enhance image interpretation. Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is an effective method of decomposing non-stationary signals into a set of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). Hence, the characteristics of EMD may apply to image fusion techniques. This study proposes a novel image fusion method using a pyramid-based EMD. To improve computational time, the pyram… Show more

“…But this method is difficult for the operators to determine the positions of the areas in the large maps and the size of the prior data. Pyramid decomposition [24,25] can reduce the account of the data by 2 l  2 l , where l is decomposition levels. In this method, the prior data is extracted by interlaced and separated sampling.…”

“…At the radar system, image analysis is used for target identification and detection, helicopter or aircraft landing assistance. Image analysis is also widely applied in remote sensing system for multispectral image analysis [8], weather forecasts [9], and agriculture industry from satellite image.…”
