QoS-aware resource management for LTE-Advanced relay-enhanced network

Abstract: Relaying is one of the major innovative concepts proposed in the recent years for cellular radio communication systems. It is a perfect solution for dealing with the issue of high variability of performance in cellular networks. By coordinated deployment at cell-edge or in shadowed areas, relay nodes can extend network coverage and increase the low end-user performance. Considering the advantages, relaying is recently being included in the standards of the fourth generation systems such as the LTE-Advanced and… Show more

“…Mongha's and Zaki's proposals do not increase the user's priority when the HOL packet delay approaches its upper bound, and therefore, they are not well suited to satisfy the PDB. In [15], Gora proposes a QoS-aware resource management for LTE-A-based relay networks. Although his proposal concentrates on multi-hop relays, it presents valuable utility functions to satisfy the GBR and/or the PDB for real-time traffic.…”

“…While only fixed relays' architecture is optimized in the standards [8], mobile relays are studied to offer dynamic relaying topology. Mobile relaying has been investigated in the Wireless World Initiative New Radio (WINNER) project [9] contributing in the development and the assessment of 3GPP LTE and IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) [10] standards and in the Advanced Radio Interface Technologies for 4G Systems (ARTIST4G) project providing innovative concepts to cellular mobile radio communications [11].…”

“…LTE employs orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and single-carrier frequency division multiple access schemes for downlink and uplink multiple access schemes respectively [6]. Two of the significant building blocks in LTE-A is the bandwidth extension in the form of the carrier aggregation (CA) as well as heterogeneous network (HetNets) performance [7]. CA is employed to improve the capacity of the cell [8].…”
