The aim of this article is to identify substantial factors affecting the motivation of universities’ students to be actively engaged in the education process and define recommendations for the increase of this motivation. As a result, the sustainability of education at universities will be supported, contributing to the increase of the value of human capital of students and, subsequently, to the generation of value for the stakeholder groups in those enterprises where the graduates will be employed. The research hypothesis is focused on the presence of differences in students’ motivation in relation to their gender, study program, and the year of study. To effectively achieve this aim, the analysis, comparison, and the synthesis of the theoretical background was performed, using available sources of secondary data found in the pieces of domestic and foreign professional literature. The pieces of knowledge obtained were supplemented and combined with pieces of information acquired from the questionnaire survey conducted, focusing on the motivation of students of informatics and management at a university in the Slovak Republic. As tools of statistical analysis, tests of independence suitable for nominal categorical data were applied. It was revealed that young people are motivated to study at a university, specifically at the Faculty of Management Science and Informatics, mainly by the prospect of better chances in the labor market, the possibility of getting a higher salary, and higher qualification. The motivation to study at a university in order to improve the opportunity of getting employed in the labor market was more frequently perceived by women. Despite the fact that the level of teaching is considered to be high by almost 50% of the students regardless of their gender, study program, or the year of study, their motivation also stems from their expectations related to their future jobs. The students of informatics expect to have a team of friendly colleagues, delightful and stimulating working conditions, and the opportunity to do meaningful work. Among the students of management, meaningful work was replaced by the opportunity for self-fulfillment. When focusing on other factors, the differences based on the gender, study program, or the year of study were not statistically significant. Based on these findings, specific measures for the faculty’s management were proposed.

The government of each state strives for the decrease of the unemployment to the lowest level possible, and thus for achieving of the natural unemployment rate. Slovakia, after joining the European Union, also had to adapt to this trend and to develop even more effort for solving the issue of a high unemployment rate. One of the possible approaches to promoting the employment of people without work is the use of active labor market policy instruments. The tools are intended for enterprises and individuals and should encourage enterprises to create new jobs or individuals to show more initiatives. An example for Slovakia, as well as for other EU states, is represented by the Nordic countries. In these countries, the active labor market policies have been functioning for long years. In the paper, the approaches of Slovakia, Sweden, EU and OEDC countries are identified and analyzed pertaining to the tools of active labor market policies in the context of sustainability. Based on the analysis of available foreign and domestic statistics, we found that Slovakia spends little finance on labor market policy compared to EU or OECD countries. Most of the resources are dedicated to passive labor market policy, i.e. unemployment support or early retirement, and only a minority of active programs. Slovakia has the most support for active labor market policy subsidies for enterprises and activation work for long-term unemployed, but attention has also to be paid to education that is under-funded in the long run.

El estudio de la calidad y la mejora de la docencia universitaria se basa en la mayoría de las ocasiones en la formación del docente, dejando a un lado otros factores transcendentales como puede ser la actitud. Considerada como el comportamiento del docente en base a sus conocimientos y experiencias, este trabajo presenta la validación de una escala de actitud hacia la docencia en base a 3 dimensiones: personal, docente y profesional. Tras una validación de contenido por jueces, se aplica la escala a una muestra, representativa por rama de conocimiento y categoría profesional, de 161 profesores universitarios de la Universidad de Salamanca. El análisis psicométrico de la escala, formada por 13 ítems tipo Likert con cinco opciones de respuesta, muestra correlaciones ítem total medias-bajas, un índice de fiabilidad aceptable (α de Cronbach=.75) y una estructura factorial clara y consistente donde se confirma la existencia de los tres factores. Así mismo, se destaca la mayor distinción de las dimensiones docente (.854) y profesional (.885), frente a la investigadora (.553). Se concluye incidiendo en la importancia de considerar las actitudes del profesorado como indicador relevante de estudio en la enseñanza superior, empleando escalas válidas y fiables como la que se ofrece en este artículo. Como líneas de investigación futuras, queda abierta la puerta a una nueva validación del instrumento en nuevos contextos de enseñanza universitaria. The study of the quality and improvement of university teaching is mostly based on teacher training, leaving aside other transcendental factors such as attitude. Considered as the behavior of the teacher based on their knowledge and experiences, this work shows the validation of a scale of attitude towards teaching based on 3 dimensions: personal, teaching and research. After content validation by judges, the scale is applied to a representative sample, by branch of knowledge and professional category, of 161 university teachers at the University of Salamanca. The psychometric analysis of the scale, made up of 13 Likert type items with five answer possibilities, shows correlations between average and low total items, an acceptable reliability index (α de Cronbach=.75) and a clear and consistent factor structure where the existence of the three factors is confirmed. In addition, there is a greater distinction between the teaching (.854) and professional (.885) dimensions, as opposed to the researcher (.553). It concludes by stressing the importance of considering the attitudes of teachers as a relevant indicator of study in higher education, using valid and reliable scales such as that offered in this article. As future lines of research, the door remains open to a new validation of the instrument in new contexts of higher education.
