“…In times of crisis, humanitarian assistance is essential to save lives and relieve suffering. Thus, based on the principles of humanity, local and international nongovernmental organisations act under the leadership and invitation of the government to assist affected populations in disaster-affected areas when it feels unable to do so (Corbet, 2014). But this intervention, if it is done according to the principles of neutrality, impartiality, independence, and to complement fundamental humanitarian principles, should aim towards effective coordination to promote transparency, avoid duplication and allow the maximum needs of the maximum number of affected people to be covered.…”

Ce dernier se trouve ainsi confiné à un statut passif de victime dont la capacité d'action est réduite, voire niée (Corbet, 2014b).…”

“…As in other research on the anthropology of development and humanitarian aid (Atlani Duault, 2005; Revet, 2007, 2018; Agier, 2008; Atlani Duault and Vidal, 2009; Fassin and Pandolfi, 2010; Benadusi, Brambilla, and Riccio, 2011; Olivier de Sardan, 2011; Corbet, 2014a, 2014b), my objective is to analyse how humanitarian aid was received, from the perspective of its beneficiaries. Tongoans were not passive; on the contrary, they contested and resisted various components of the assistance, which attempted to change the architectural context of the island.…”
