Quantitative analysis of stability of 9%Cr steel microstructure after long-term ageing

Abstract: The paper presents the results of research on the microstructure of martensitic X10CrMoVNb9-1 (P91) and X13CrMoCo-VNbNB9-2-1 (PB2) steel subject to long-term ageing at the temperature of 620°C and holding times up to 30 000 hours. The microstructural tests of the examined steel types were performed using a scanning microscope Joel JSM -6610LV and a transmission electron microscope TITAN 80 -300. The stability of the microstructure of the investigated steels was analyzed using a quantitative analysis of an imag… Show more

“…The hardening with these precipitates is ensured by anchoring and hindering the motion of dislocations [6,7,9,14,15,18,29]. The calculations made for the P91 steel showed that the stress required for dislocation to "bypass" the carbide and nitride particles with the Orowan mechanism is as follows: for M 23 C 6 -39 MPa, for NbC-15 MPa, and for VN-106 MPa [30].…”

“…The increase in the size of sub-boundaries usually takes place with the "Y" mechanism [15,17,18]. The migration with this mechanism is based on the movements of "Y" nodes that are the place where three sub-boundaries meet, which allows the coalescence of two low-angle boundaries.…”

“…At Czestochowa Technical University, the group of Stefania Stachurowa and Leopold Jeziorski are investigating the use of stereological methods to describe metal microstructures (Golanski et al, 2017, Lis et al, 1977, Stachura, 1995.…”

“…In their evaluation, the condition assessment of their materials is important and necessary [12][13][14][15][16]. It is carried out using destructive and nondestructive materials testing the result of which is referred to the available characteristics of materials both in the as-received condition and after service [17][18][19][20][21][22]. The results of these tests, supported by the extensive material characteristics database, allow for good estimation of the material condition and degree of exhaustion and determination of the time of further trouble-free service until the next scheduled inspection.…”
