Radiation Therapy Reduced Blood Levels of LDH, HIF-1α, and miR-210 in OSCC

Abstract: Radiation Therapy (RT) is a treatment option for a large number of neoplasias. However, the effect of RT on the level of hypoxia markers is poorly understood. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of RT on the levels of hypoxic markers in Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Evaluation of HIF-1α and miR-210 levels in OSCC was performed. Then a proteomic analysis was performed to identify candidate hypoxic targets of RT. To validate proteomic studies, the effect of RT on HIF-1α, miR-210, PDH-A and L… Show more

“…It is already known that hypoxia markers are significantly more expressed in HNSC lymph node metastasis than primary lesions 4 . Moreover, previous studies also confirmed that hypoxia increases HNSC cell proliferation, migration and reduced cell death 4,22 . To test whether HSP90AA1, HSPA4 and PRNP levels are changed in lymph node metastasis, a cross‐sectional IHC study was performed.…”

“…SCC9 (squamous cell carcinoma of the mouth acquired from Rio de Janeiro Cell Bank – code) cells was past studies 21 . The detection of apoptotic cells during proliferation and migration was monitored as described previously 5,21,22 . Hypoxia was induced in a modular incubator (2001 Billups‐Rothenberg Inc.) by adding a high concentration of carbon dioxide (99.0% CO 2 / <0.2 ppm O 2 ) for 5 min.…”

“…The samples related to gender, race, and age are also an important part of OSCC epidemiology. Meanwhile, treatment of OSCC mainly includes surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy (de Souza et al, 2020;Nandini et al, 2020). Survival outcomes after treatment are also used to analyze prognostic indicators (Zanoni et al, 2019).…”

“…Usually, patients with OSCC present with one or more risk factors for cancer development (Farias et al, 2010; Pinheiro et al, 2014). However, in some cases, no classical risk factors are present at OSCC diagnosis (de Souza et al, 2020; Monção et al, 2020). Although specific clinical characteristics have been identified (de Carvalho Fraga et al, 2014; Fonseca‐Silva et al, 2012; Santos et al, 2021), including lifestyle and human papillomavirus (HPV) status (Fonseca‐Silva et al, 2012; Marques‐Silva et al, 2012), it remains unclear what exactly initiates carcinogenesis or what facilitates intrinsic carcinogenesis, also known as non‐habit‐related carcinogenesis (de Souza et al, 2020b; Monção et al, 2020).…”
