Radio Resource Allocation for Low-Medium-Altitude Aerial Platform Based TD-LTE Networks against Disaster

Abstract: Abstract-In order to provide an increased capacity for voice users in emergency scenarios, a low-medium-altitude aerial platform based time-division-duplex long term evolution (TD-LTE) system referred to as Aerial LTE, is presented in this paper. Furthermore, a novel radio resource allocation mechanism is proposed for both the Aerial LTE downlink and uplink, which is modeled as a cooperative game to provide real-time voice communications with as many users as possible. Our simulation results demonstrate that c… Show more

“…Several papers analyze various information networks and work to optimize them given the occurrence of a disaster event and handling congestion that may occur. This includes networks of sensors (Li et al 2012;Khan and Auguin 2013), information networks (Batabyal and Bhaumik 2013;Castelli et al 2006), communication networks (Somov et al 2013;Zhao et al 2012), and air traffic networks (Purohit and Mantri 2013). Li et al (2012) apply remote sensing in disaster response.…”

“…This would be important in communicating between agents during a natural disaster to best coordinate a response. Zhao et al (2012) analyze a resource allocation problem with radio resources for communication via Aerial LTE. They use a cooperative game to model communication among users.…”

“…The authors also presented a calculation of the path loss and the traffic capacity of the overall system. An interesting work dealing with the integration of aerospace segments and 4G terrestrial networks has been proposed by Zhao et al [16]. The use of a low-medium-altitude aerial-platform-based time-duplex LTE system (i.e., Aerial-LTE) is considered in that work in order to increase the capacity for voice users in emergency scenarios.…”

“…There has been a lot of work on the definition of efficiency. In view of the frequency spectrum and the power, two major radio resource categories, many researchers consider BE and PE, respectively, as the principal efficiency criterion [14,20]. The BE of a communication system is defined as the number of bits per unit bandwidth, which in the case of single-input-single-output systems corresponds to bit-per-second-per-Hertz (b/s/Hz).…”
