Radiotherapy for liver cancer

Abstract: In recent years, radiotherapy for liver cancer has accomplished much technical progress. The history of radiotherapy for liver cancer shows an endeavor to overcome the problem of how to raise the irradiation dose to lesions while suppressing the unnecessary irradiation dose to normal liver tissue. With the appearance of treatment using X‐ray radiotherapy represented by three‐dimensional conformal radiotherapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy and particle beam therapy using proton beams and carbon ion beams, rad… Show more

“…In addition, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, molecular targeted therapy, immunotherapy, antiviral therapy, traditional Chinese medicine, and other adjuvant sexual therapy can effectively inhibit liver cancer. Among them, radiotherapy is not a first-line treatment plan for liver cancer, but it can be used as an effective means for local treatment of liver cancer [ 10 12 ]. Chemotherapy is a common treatment method in traditional cancer treatment, but it is more harmful to the liver, and it is easy to aggravate the symptoms of liver cirrhosis and hepatitis.…”

“…Radiation therapy provides a non-invasive local treatment effect achieved through ionizing radiation. With time, X-ray radiation therapy has emerged, which is represented by three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy, proton beam and particle beam therapies, which have rendered radiation therapy a safe and effective treatment option for liver cancer [42].…”

“…Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are currently the most widely used treatments for malignant tumors. [1,2] However, after a longer period of clinical treatment, researchers discovered that these therapies do not always completely cure cancer, and even some patients still experience a variety of issues linked to subpar treatment outcomes, severe side effects, and a high risk of recurrence, which frequently result in more severe complication and may even be followed by bacterial infections after surgical resection. [3,4] A significant obstacle has always been the overcoming infection resistance, wound healing following tumor excision and cancer treatment.…”
