Rapyuta: A Cloud Robotics Platform

Abstract: Abstract-In this paper we present the design and implementation of Rapyuta1 , an open source cloud robotics platform. Rapyuta helps robots to offload heavy computation by providing secured customizable computing environments in the cloud. The computing environments also allow the robots to easily access the RoboEarth knowledge repository. Furthermore, these computing environments are tightly interconnected, paving the way for deployment of robotic teams. We also describe three typical use cases, some benchmark… Show more

“…The experiments demonstrate a faster execution time for a single-vehicle FastSLAM but the authors do not consider the delays or latencies induced by these outsourced computations on a real-time approach. Rapyuta [216] is another framework designed for cloud robotics. Its use is demonstrated with a RGB-D odometry.…”

“…Rapyuta [2] [3] is an open-source cloud computing component that creates a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) framework to move computational intensive activities from robots into the cloud. Each robot running Rapyuta creates a virtual container in the cloud that can be used to store data, to run computational intensive tasks, exchange information with other Rapyuta containers, and connect to the RoboEarth knowledge database [5].…”

“…Massively parallel computation, allowing humans to monitor or intervene robots and serving as a global repository to store and share object models, environment maps, and actions recipes between various robotic platforms are some of specifications of Rapyuta. It is a competitor of Rosbridge [22] in terms of communication [23].…”
