Recent Advances in Optically Active Polymer‐Based Nanowires and Nanotubes

Abstract: to their wide range of tunable and potentially enhanced properties, as well as solution processing. Among the numerous conducting and semiconducting conjugated polymers processed into NWs and NTs and mentioned in this report, one can point out polythiophene (PT) and its derivatives, such as poly(3-metylthiophene) (P3MT), poly(3-butylthiophene) (P3BT), poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) andpoly(3,4-ethylene-dioxythiophene) (PEDOT), polypyrrole (PPy), polyaniline (PANi), polyphenylene-vinylene (PPV) andpoly[2-methoxy… Show more

“…Conjugated polymer nanowires from solution processing are particularly attractive due to their advantages in excellent performance and postprocessing free in organic thin‐film transistor (OTFT) and organic solar cell (OSC) . The built‐up process of nanowires in solution is generally considered to go through two steps: nucleation and growth . Driven by solubility difference through changing the temperature (the whiskers method), adding bad solvents or slow evaporation of the main solvent (SEOMS) is the most common way for solution processed nanowires.…”

“…The standard electrospinning equipment consists of a high-voltage power supply, a metallic capillary, and a grounded collector as a counter electrode. Polymer solution is extruded from an orifice to form a small droplet in the presence of an electric field [27]. As mentioned above, when an electric field is applied, the charge or dipole orientation is induced on the surface of the air layer and the solution for the hemispherical droplet surface, mutual charge repulsion or dipole causes a force directly opposite of the surface tension.…”
