Recent Strategies in Resveratrol Delivery Systems

Abstract: Resveratrol, a natural polyphenolic stilbenoid widely found in grapes and wines, displays beneficial properties such as cardio‐protective, antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory activities. Trans‐resveratrol (RSV) is the most bioactive and more abundant stereoisomer found in nature. Despite the positive properties of RSV, there are various factors that limit its effectiveness, including low aqueous solubility, low oral bioavailability and chemical instability. During the last years, an increasing number of strategi… Show more

“…Nevertheless, the exact mechanism of the antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of RSV remains uncertain. However, the clinical applications of these results remain controversial, due to RSV poor pharmacokinetics, low water solubility, and in vivo rapid metabolism [ 18 , 19 ]. The local administration into the peri-implant region could address this issue as it helps avoiding systemic degradation of RSV, increasing its therapeutic concentration.…”

“…The reports also demonstrated that the most efficient strategy in promoting the bioavailability and protective effects of Res is using nanoparticles [ 61 ]. The encapsulation of Res by nanoparticles protects against degradation and improves its intestinal absorption and blood circulation time [ 62 , 63 , 64 , 65 , 66 ]. These benefits lead to the promoted bioavailability of Res and an improvement in its therapeutic effects [ 67 , 68 ].…”

“…The pathological process of vascular remodeling during cardiovascular diseases includes changes in biological activities and parameters of the cell ,that is, proliferation, differentiation, vascular, homeostasis, and apoptosis. [ 134 ] Newly originated mechanical stresses further initiate shear stress and cyclic stretch, which are the key factors of vascular remodeling. The vascular cells and cytoskeletons are capable of sensing mechanical factors through proteins in the cell membrane and nuclear envelope.…”
