Forests perform essential ecological functions -water protection, sanitation, health, recreation, and aesthetics. The research aimed to substantiate the ecological and economic importance of forest resources in the Kyiv region and analyse their rational use and protection. The article shows that the Kyiv region belongs to the regions with an average level of forest cover -592.8 thousand hectares or 22.2%. The level of forest cover is uneven in the area of the Kyiv Forest zone. It is 44%, and in the area of the Forest-Steppe, it is much lower and decreases from north to south. The use of forest resources in the Kyiv region in 2019 amounted to harvesting liquid wood of 999.5 thousand m 2 , and deforestation was carried out on 75.5 thousand hectares. The region's volume of forestry works and services amounted to 8,9 million dollars, and the wood stock makes 90805,9 thousand m 2 . Emphasis is placed on the importance of protecting the Red Book species of plants and fungi that grow in the forests of the Kyiv region. Examples of harmful economic activity in the areas belonging to the nature reserve fund and large-scale fires in April 2020, which covered more than 3.5 thousand hectares of forests in the region and caused damage to forest fauna and flora. The studied region's positive environmental and economic factors have been admitted by planting trees on an area of 2151 hectares and sowing seeds of forest species on an area of 67 hectares in 2020.

Мета цієї публікації-дослідження сучасних можливостей геоінформаційного картографування та представлення його результатів у атласних інформаційних системах (АІС). Дано визначення, класифікацію, вимоги та можливості АІС. Проаналізовано іноземні АІС ризику надзвичайних ситуацій, бездомності, охорони здоров'я та охорони природи. Розглянуто АІС, створені українськими науковцями. Окреслено напрямки подальшого розвитку атласних інформаційних систем в Україні. Ключові слова: атласна інформаційна система; електронний атлас; віртуальний атлас; геопортал.

The purpose of the publication is to highlight the main results of the development of the first Ukrainian interactive atlas “Population of Ukraine and its natural and cultural heritage”. It was created in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation between the NAS of Ukraine and the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. According to analysis of previous researches, there have been no attempts to map the complex and long-term processes of interaction between the population and its natural and cultural heritage so far in Ukraine and abroad. The Atlas provides knowledge and information about the historical stages of development of the population of Ukraine and the formation of its cultural and natural heritage in the following sections: 1. Ukraine in the European space - 3 maps; 2. Population - the subject of heritage formation - 57 maps; 3. Natural and cultural heritage - 28 maps; 4. Protection, preservation, restoration and using of natural and cultural heritage - 9 maps. The Atlas was developed using the updated AtlasSF Atlas Solutions Framework, one of the previous versions of which was used to create the Electronic version of the National Atlas of Ukraine. The modern architecture of AtlasSF allows integrating the developed atlas both in the atlas information system, and in the atlas geoinformation system of cultural heritage. All types of information resources were used to create the Atlas: maps, texts, photos, statistics. The interactive atlas contains 97 vector maps, texts, photos and tables.
