Start-ups are an increasingly important phenomenon in the Brazilian business ecosystem. Many such companies have been created over the past few years, illustrating the interest in and growth of such entrepreneurship. Emerging companies are more likely to be founded on sustainable business models. In many cases, such models incorporate the principles of the circular economy. Thus, this study reviewed the use of disruptive innovation and the circularity of resources in the business models of start-ups. The study consisted of 50 semistructured interviews with start-up owners and managers. We accessed the database of the Brazilian Start-ups Association to map the organisations to be surveyed. Our results show that start-ups are innovating in terms of the circularity of resources through a range of partially implemented initiatives. These initiatives allow start-ups to manage their data and microdata, create artefact integration systems, generate connectivity, accelerate digitisation, stimulate partnerships and cooperation between parties in the supply chain, generate new market opportunities and develop efficient transition systems for the circularity of resources. Thus, there is ample evidence that disruptive innovation supports the circular economy in Brazilian start-ups. This study makes two main contributions to the literature. First, it strengthens the existing understanding of the use of the circular economy in start-ups, supported by disruptive innovation. Second, it identifies the levels of adoption of the circular economy in different market segments. Based on these findings, it identifies several opportunities to encourage further advances in this area.

A adubação orgânica na produção de hortaliças promove a melhoria da qualidade do solo e disponibilidade de nutrientes para as plantas. Nesse contexto, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de doses de urina bovina combinadas com adubações orgânicas à base de esterco bovino e compostagem, no cultivo da rúcula cv. “Agatha”. O experimento foi realizado na Universidade Federal do Agreste de Pernambuco (UFAPE), em condições de campo. Os tratamentos consistiram de seis doses de urina bovina (20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120 mL) e aplicações de adubação orgânica à base de esterco bovino curtido e compostagem. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso em esquema fatorial 6 x 2, com quatro repetições totalizando 48 parcelas experimentais. Foram avaliadas a altura das plantas, o número de folhas, massas frescas e seca da parte aérea e a relação raiz parte aérea. As adubações orgânicas foram benéficas para todas as variáveis estudadas. Verificou-se que o aumento das doses de urina bovina utilizando a compostagem proporcionou incremento na produção da massa seca da parte aérea e no número de folhas. Por outro lado, o efeito isolado da urina bovina demostrou redução na relação raiz parte aérea e aumento da massa fresca e altura de planta.

A complexidade dos problemas emergentes demanda das organizações uma visão holística das dimensões que as envolvem. Apesar das disciplinas, desenvolvimento sustentável, inovação e gestão de design, tratarem de questões complexas e dinâmicas, suas interações ainda não são claras, mesmo com elos comuns. Assim, objetiva-se conhecer a relação multidisciplinar para o desenvolvimento social sustentável entre desenvolvimento sustentável, inovação e gestão de design. Para tanto, procede-se à pesquisa exploratória, de caráter qualitativo e o uso da pesquisa bibliográfica como método de levantamento de dados. A etapa de pesquisa bibliográfica foi realizada por meio de uma revisão narrativa de literatura que envolveu as três disciplinas a serem tratadas: desenvolvimento sustentável, inovação e gestão de design. Com base nisso, observou-se a articulação estratégica da gestão de design e da inovação em torno do desenvolvimento sustentável, em que a gestão de design orientada à inovação pode contribuir criativamente na resolução de problemas reais e gerar mudanças disruptivas na sociedade, o que permite concluir convergência entre as disciplinas tratadas.
