A series of deferasirox derivatives of 1,2,4‐triazole (5 a–i,6 a–g) were designed and synthesized by the ring‐opening rearrangement reaction of phenyl hydrazine or its substituents and imines, compounds 5 d–i, 6 e–g are previously unknown. Obtained derivatives were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and Mass spectral. The antibacterial activities of all compounds against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger were experimentally evaluated. Most of them exhibited potential antimicrobial activity and promising antifungal activity. Especially, 6 f and 6 g showed the best antimicrobial activity (MIC90=0.125–2.0 μg/mL) against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli, while compounds 6 c, 6 e showed excellent antifungal activity (MIC90=0.5–2.0 μg/mL). The molecular docking analysis further revealed that all the synthesized derivatives have shown potential binding affinities.

In the present study, a nanomagnetic bisethylferrocene‐containing ionic liquid (IL) supported on silica‐coated Fe3O4, [Fe3O4@SiO2@{CH2}3‐Imidazolium‐Fc{H2PO4}], was designed and synthesized as a novel catalyst using a simple chemical co‐precipitation procedure. The synthesized nanoparticles were identified by using EDX, FE‐SEM, XRD, and FT‐IR techniques. The catalytic activities of the novel magnetic nanoparticle were tested in the one‐pot synthesis of hydroxycoumarin derivatives through the three‐component reaction (t‐CR) between 4‐hydroxycoumarin, various aromatic aldehydes, and secondary amines at room temperature. Based on the obtained results, the prepared nano‐catalyst has progressed through a t‐CR due to the presence of acidic and basic segments in its structure. The short reaction time, high yield, eco‐friendly properties, and easy work‐up are some of the advantages of new synthesized nanomagnetic catalysts. The easy separation of the new magnetic catalyst from the reaction mixture makes it possible to reuse it after washing and drying.

Pyridine (py) is an important heterocyclic compound and is an integral part of various natural products. There are various medicines containing py ring system being available in the market to combat different human ailments. Observing the medicine market, Omeprazole, a widely used py-based drug in medicinal market since 1998. Netupitant (an antiemitic drug, since 2014) is used in combination with another drug to prevent acute and delayed vomiting and nausea associated with cancer chemotherapy led the run towards development of anticancer drugs. Several drugs have been approved by FDA for the treatment of cancer in recent years such as, Abemaciclib (2015), Lorlatinib (2018), Apalutamide (2018) and Ivosidenib (2019). Research on py on the bases of these advancements is an evergreen field and associated with greater hopes to address several disease related issues. Several compounds are in the process of clinical trials and are expected to serve various purposes in days to come. This review article deals with recent findings in py chemistry and its coordination complexes. The medicinal efficiency has been argued for organic and inorganic derivatives. Selected biological applications are hereby discussed as follow up study of our report in 2015. Suitable literature prior to 2015 has also been incorporated in appropriate places in order to cover the scope in broader sense.
