Research into Influence from Different Ranges of PAR Radiation on Efficiency and Biochemical Composition of Green Salad Foliage Biomass

Abstract: Results of the first photobiological studies of optimisation of LED phyto irradiators spectrum and irradiance level, when growing saladgreengrocers plants in greenhouses and plant factories in photoculture conditions, are presented in the article. The results are given as a series of producing capacity curves for salad and basil plants when irradiating by quasimonochromatic spectrum for three PAR ranges: blue, green and red. In the experiment, levels of photosynthetic photon irradiance (70 ? 230) µmol/s·m2 a… Show more

“…In our experiment, blue light significantly enhanced photosynthetic capacity relative to treatments lacking blue light, which is consistent with other findings, e.g., analyses of Rubisco activity and potential rate of photosynthetic electron transport [ 8 ]. In leafy crops, additivity in combined effects of R and B on plant productivity was observed in lettuce, but not in sweet basil plants [ 16 ].…”

“…Blue light addition to red can improve plant photosynthetic effectiveness [ 13 ]. Furthermore, a combination of red and blue light in certain cases can result in synergetic effects in biomass accumulation [ 16 ]. Green LED light regulates leaf expansion, stem stretching, and stomatal conductance.…”

“…As a result of the first phase of the FBS [1], the region of PPFD in interval of (160-180) µmol/ (s•m²), corresponding to maximum capacity of Landau lettuce and Russian Giant basil, was established. Afterwards, all experiments with red-blue (RB) and red-green-blue (RGB) PE were conducted at PPFD equal to 170 µmol/(s•m²) ±10 %.…”

“…The article [1] presents the results of the first phase of the FBS conducted by the authors using a phytotron in lettuce and basil photo culture (at K.A. Timiryazev RGAU-MSKhA) using the developed special quasi-monochromatic LEDbased phytoemitters (PE).…”
