Research on color harmony of building façades

Abstract: In this study, the 28 primary colors and 11 complementary colors suggested by Chang et al in their investigation on building colors in Wanhua District of Taipei City were taken as color samples. The two‐color combination mode was adopted to obtain 308 simulation photos, and two‐color harmony was discussed from the perspective of visual evaluation using psychophysical tests. This study explored building façade color harmony in the CIELAB color space, and the relationship between the color attributes (hue, light… Show more

“…The quantitative study of the plant landscape color is of great significance to the improvement of the quality of the urban park landscape. This study uses the NCS color system to collect the plant landscape color, avoiding the disadvantages of instrument measurement and camera photography, 29,30 and, combining with the M‐S color harmony theory, to evaluate 12 plant communities quantitatively, so as to explore the factors affecting the aesthetic degree of plant landscape color, and provide theoretical basis for the future plant landscape color design. The results show that Among the 12 plant community landscapes, the color harmony degree of the plant community landscape numbered A3 is the highest, and the color suitability degree of the plant community landscape numbered D3 is the lowest. Among the four urban parks, the color harmony degree of three plant communities in Xuanwu Lake Park is the highest, and the color suitability degree is the lowest, which may be related to the poor color quality degree of the external environment of Xuanwu Lake. The color difference of the plant landscape has a strong correlation with color coordination and color suitability, whereas the lightness difference of that has a weak correlation with color coordination and color suitability.…”

“…It is forbidden to use excessively gorgeous colours with high brightness, and the use of colours with low lightness must be moderately controlled. By protecting the excellent colours in the current situation and banning overly gorgeous ones, the purpose of continuing the region's main colour is achieved 54 . (b) To cultivate each district's attributes .…”

“…Cubukcu et al used the image technology and semantic differential scale for the emotional scores of the interviewees by changing the color (hue, saturation, brightness) of hotel façade, and consequently gained insight into the color preference for the façade and the difference in attributes between interviewees 17 . Taking an urban renewal building project as the research object, Li asked 34 interviewees to score the color harmony of the building façade simulation pictures, and concluded that the color harmony score was higher when the lightness of the main color was higher and the lightness of the main and auxiliary colors was significantly different 18 …”
