Resolution enhancement of holographic printer using a hogel overlapping method

Abstract: We propose a hogel overlapping method for the holographic printer to enhance the lateral resolution of holographic stereograms. The hogel size is directly related to the lateral resolution of the holographic stereogram. Our analysis by computer simulation shows that there is a limit to decreasing the hogel size while printing holographic stereograms. Instead of reducing the size of hogel, the lateral resolution of holographic stereograms can be enhanced by printing overlapped hogels, which makes it possible to… Show more

“…Both examples clearly show that our design approach allows finding new and desirable SVSL designs with a significantly improved performance and wearability. Manufacturing our hybrid SVSL designs requires advanced manufacturing techniques such as holographic printers [24][25][26] that are capable of creating arbitrary HOE configurations. Recent improvements in holographic materials suggest that our simulated diffraction efficiencies can be realized experimentally [27,28].…”

“…The photopolymer was exposed by the interference fringes. We adopted the scanning-based exposure method called holographic printing [23][24][25][26][27][28][29] to realize spatially uniform diffraction efficiency of the holographic mirror. The photopolymer was mounted on a two-axes-motorized stage for scanning.…”

“…A hogel overlapping method for enhancing the lateral resolution of holographic stereogram was proposed by Hong et al [56]. The shifting distance of hogel was smaller than the hogel size, and the maximum number of recordable overlapped hogels depended on the dynamic range of the holographic recording medium.…”
