Resonance Scattering of Phonons at Trigonal Jahn‐Teller Centres

Abstract: The scattering of degenerate lattice waves by localized degenerate electronic states is considered. The inverse lifetime of phonons of IT-type is calculated by the method of double time thermodynamical Green's functions, the T-Matrix formalism, and a n application of a nonlinear canonical transformation. The behaviour of the lifetime in both the extremal coupling cases is given. The temperature dependence of the lifetime broadening is discussed.
