“…The most popular technique of experimental verification of aircraft dynamic properties consists of a flight test. It can be performed with the application of a full-scale prototype or scaled flying model (Kimberlin, 2003;Matheny and Panageas, 1981;Murrow and Eckstrom, 1979;Brinker and Wise, 2001;Gali nski et al, 1997;Gali nski and Goraj, 2004;Goraj and Szender, 2005;Goraj et al, 2012). The model for such an experiment is usually scaled according to the Froude scales (Wolowicz et al, 1979) which implicates the relation between a mass, speed and model scale expressed by equations ( 1) and (2).…”

“…Such a flight is possible when one applies a strakewing configuration and the vortex lift phenomenon (Polhamus, 1996;Lamar, 1998). The concept of rocket-plane shown in Figures 1 and 2, using the strake-wing configuration was defined at the Warsaw University of Technology Figure 1 Rocket-plane (dark gray) and carrier (light gray) (Gali nski et al, 2007;Kwiek et al, 2011;Kwiek et al, 2012;Kwiek and Figat, 2013;Kwiek and Figat, 2016). The mission profile of the design is presented in Figure 3.…”

“…UAVs were used for flight testing to save resources, but a manned research vehicle test is also envisaged in the future. The approach was taken, as the research team has extensive experience in the design and testing of UAVs serving as dynamically similar flying models (Galinski et al, 1997;Goraj et al, 2012;Goraj and Szender, 2004;Goraj and Szender, 2005). The project was conducted by a consortium of four entities: Warsaw University of Technology, the Air Force Institute of Technology and Marcin Szender MSP under the leadership of the Institute of Aviation which is eyeing the subsequent project behind I-31T (Piwek and Wisniowski, 2016;Iwaniuk et al, 2016).…”

“…Experiments described in this paper were undertaken to establish if it is possible to predict the dynamic behaviour of the full‐scale aircraft when some numbers of similarity criteria are not matched. To reach this goal a scaled RPV was built (Galinski, 1996; Galinski et al , 1997) equipped and tested in flight (Plate 1). This was a copy of the J‐5 Marco motorglider (certified in 1986).…”
