Reverse Problem in Surface Texture Analysis—One-Process Profile Modeling on the Basis of Measured Two-Process Profile after Machining or Wear

Abstract: The method of the base (valley) one-process profile modeling on the basis of the measured two-process profile was developed. The base one-process random profile of the Gaussian ordinate distribution is characterized by the standard deviation of the profile height and the correlation length. The problem of estimation of the correlation length of this one-process profile exists. In the procedure of the correlation length estimation, information about the averaged shape of the autocorrelation functions of many on… Show more

“…The valley area outside has no change regardless of the MS value. It was shown that with valley density (suitable area density, e.g., from 7.5% to 20%) and valley area of the whole (with the proper shape, e.g., spherical or short/long-drop shape dimples, and dimensions) both accurately defined, the friction characteristics of the sliding pairs could be improved in comparison to non-textured surfaces [ 71 ]. False estimation of oil-reservoir volume can cause a classification of a properly made part as a lack and its rejection.…”

“…In this case, another methodology can also be used to assess the surface. Pawlus and others [67] developed the method of simulation of the one-process base (valley) profile on the basis of the two-process profile. Figure 14 shows the SEM micrographs of the surface of the used PU belt and virgin PU belt on both sides of the belt: A (a) and B (b).…”

“…A well designed surface texture, with specific roughness parameters will have superior tribological characteristics. The manufacturing process and surface finishing technique determines the surface texture of a part [8]. A broad concept of surface texture is an important factor in evaluating surface integrity, which belongs to a set of basic characteristics describing the quality of manufactured parts.…”
