Risk factors for medial meniscal injury in association with cranial cruciate ligament rupture

Abstract: Objectives: To determine the significant risk factors for medial meniscal injury in naturally occurring cranial cruciate ligament rupture and to quantify the risk using multivariate analysis. Methods: A retrospective case control study was performed of dogs that had undergone surgery for cranial cruciate ligament rupture. Data recorded included patient signalment (age, breed and sex), the duration of the lameness, the extent of the cranial cruciate ligament rupture (complete or partial) and the condition of th… Show more

“…Vários trabalhos têm associado a ruptura de menisco à ruptura do ligamento cruzado cranial, com classificação da lesão e cronicidade 5,10,11,12,13,14,15 . Bennett e O tratamento instituído para a ruptura parcial de menisco foi a meniscectomia parcial e para a ruptura total a meniscectomia total, corroborando o tratamento utilizado por Bennet e May 10 .…”

“…Nevertheless, meniscal probing was a standard for mini-arthrotomy in this study. In a retrospective study by haYeS et al (2010), 36.3% dogs had a medial meniscal tear. During stifle joint arthrotomy, diagnosis of a medial meniscal tear is routinely made by observation and probing.…”

“…It is believed that secondary meniscal injury occurs because most of the owner delayed to come to the hospital due to ignorance about this condition and think it will be recovered automatically after some times. RCCL combined with the loss of meniscal function create a complex pathological condition in joints which exacerbates the pain, inflammation, and dysfunction (Hayes et al, 2010).…”

“…Indeed, meniscal pathology at the time of cruciate reconstruction plays a major prognostic factor in the improvement of osteoarthritis within the knee joint (Hayes et al, 2010). There are many surgical procedures have been using for surgical management of the joint instability associated with RCCL such as extracapsular lateral suture technique (LST), tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA), tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) etc (Bergh et al, 2014).…”
