Role of Sinomenine on Complete Freund's Adjuvant‐Induced Arthritis in Rats

Abstract: The investigation was undertaken to evaluate the effect of sinomenine (Sin) on experimental adjuvant arthritis rats stimulated by Freund's complete adjuvant and explore the corresponding potential molecular mechanism. The content of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factoralpha, interleukin-1 beta and interleukin-6 were detected. Besides, canonical nuclear factor kappa B (NF-jB) pathway was also assessed to evaluate the antiarthritic potential of sinomenine. Pathological sections of rat paws sho… Show more

“…It is also important to determine which component of boiogito extract has the most potent anti‐arthritic activity. Sinomenine, a major component of boi, has been reported to ameliorate arthritis by acting on MMP . The doses of sinomenine tested in this study were equivalent to 0.48 mg/kg (125 mg/kg in vivo ) and 32 μmol/L (3 mg/mL in vitro ), being much lower than in previous reports.…”

“…Inflammatory response is an important pathophysiological mechanism that is initiated with the injection of the FCA. FCA-induced rat arthritis is a widely used animal model for demonstrating autoimmune inflammation, as it presents characteristics similar to those observed in human RA damage 15. After the injection of FCA, this model successfully exhibited obvious HPV changes, which is one of the major factors in assessing the degree of inflammation and curative efficacy of drugs.…”

“…Rheumatoid arthritis is a systemic immune disease characterized by tumor‐like proliferation of synovial cells, abnormal proliferation of blood vessels and infiltration of inflammatory cells into articular cartilage and adjacent tissues. Its main pathological feature is chronic inflammation of synovial membranes . Exposure to complete adjuvant subcutaneous can lead to significant arthritis of the animal's claws and ankles.…”
