Safety evaluation of zinc methionine in laying hens: Effects on laying performance, clinical blood parameters, organ development, and histopathology

Abstract: The study was conducted to investigate whether high-dose zinc methionine (Zn-Met) affected the safety of laying hens, including laying performance, hematological parameters, serum chemical parameters, organ index, and histopathology. A total of 540 20-week-old Hy-Line White laying hens was randomly allocated to 6 groups with 6 replicates of 15 birds each. Birds were fed diets supplemented with 0 (control), 70, 140, 350, 700, or 1,400 mg Zn/kg diet as Zn-Met. The experiment lasted for 8 wk after a 2-week acclim… Show more

“…Significantly lower values of MCV and MCH ( Tables 6 and 7 ) were found only on D1 in group F3 in comparison with group C and group supplemented by Met (M), and this is difficult to explain. Whether alone or in combination with zinc, no effect of Met on hematological parameters in adult chickens was observed by Chen et al. (2018) .…”

“…That is why the search for newer zinc antimicrobials still remains a big challenge. Interestingly, there are a few zinc proteinogenic amino acids complexes which are widely used in dietary supplements and animal feed, such as zinc bisglycinate and zinc methionine, but their use in dermatological products is rare [13][14][15]. It seems that conducting research in this direction could be very promising.…”

“…Дослідження критичної періодизації має важливе значення у ветеринарії та біології розмноження і розвитку (Kryshtoforova & Lemeshchenko, 2008;Vіshhur et al, 2010;Wójcik & Smalec, 2017). Дослідженню морфофункціональних показників крові в організмі качок в різні періоди постнатального онтогенезу присвячені роботи (Olayemi et al, 2002;Olubodun et al, 2015;Pavlova, 2015;Chen et al, 2018).
