Scaling Properties of Hyperon Production inAu+AuCollisions atsNN=200GeV

Abstract: We present the scaling properties of Lambda, Xi, and Omega in midrapidity Au+Au collisions at the Brookhaven National Laboratory Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV. The yield of multistrange baryons per participant nucleon increases from peripheral to central collisions more rapidly than that of Lambda, indicating an increase of the strange-quark density of the matter produced. The strange phase-space occupancy factor gamma_{s} approaches unity for the most central collisions. Moreover, th… Show more

“…4 and 5, respectively, in comparison with the data from the PHENIX, STAR, and ALICE Collaborations [19,48,50,51,54,55]. Here again the low-momentum spectra forp,¯ +¯ 0 , − ,¯ + , and − +¯ + are roughly described at low momenta; however, the high p T tails are missed considerably at √ s NN = 200 GeV in Fig.…”

“…The lowest energy points are from Au + Au collisions measured by the E896 experiment at the BNL Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) [1] and the points in the SPS energy region are from Pb + Pb collisions measured by the NA49 experiment [20] and the NA57 experiment [2]. The RHIC data points for 130 and 200 GeV [15,21] are also presented. The strange baryon and meson production exhibits only a small energy dependence from AGS through SPS and on up to the top RHIC energies.…”

“…4 GeV are compared to the R CP of from Au + Au collisions at 200 GeV presented in Ref. [15]. To allow for a direct comparison to the 200-GeV data, the R CP was calculated from the ratio between spectra of centrality bins 0-5% and 40-60%.…”

“…3. The coalescence estimate was obtained using the p/p, / , /p, and /p ratios both measured by the STAR Collaboration [9,44,45] and obtained from the THERMUS calculations. We note that in the coalescence picture the equilibrium abundances of particle yields are not required.…”
