SUMMARYThis paper proposes and investigates a control strategy for industrial distribution networks, when isolated from the main utility, in order to improve continuity of electricity to important loads. Specifically, the paper presents the operation and control of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC)-based generation units feeding the islanded industrial network. A central control unit (CCU) determines all distributed generation (DG) units' reference power and voltage, considering the system and unit normal ratings in order to maintain reliable and high quality power for the important loads. Simulation results verify that the proposed control scheme is effective for stable operation of the industrial islanded network with dynamic and variable loads.
