Screening of Antiglaucoma, Antidiabetic, Anti-Alzheimer, and Antioxidant Activities of Astragalus alopecurus Pall—Analysis of Phenolics Profiles by LC-MS/MS

Abstract: Astragalus species are traditionally used for diabetes, ulcers, leukemia, wounds, stomachaches, sore throats, abdominal pain, and toothaches. Although the preventive effects of Astragalus species against diseases are known, there is no record of the therapeutic effects of Astragalus alopecurus. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the in vitro antiglaucoma, antidiabetic, anti-Alzheimer’s disease, and antioxidant activities of the methanolic (MEAA) and water (WEAA) extracts of the aerial part of A. alopecurus. A… Show more

“…Antioxidant activity of a compound can act by different mechanisms by chelating transition metal ions, cleaving peroxides, abstracting hydrogen, and eliminating radical species. The electron‐withdrawing capacity of an antioxidant indicates its most important property, its reducing power [12,13] …”

“…The electron-withdrawing capacity of an antioxidant indicates its most important property, its reducing power. [12,13] The reduction potential of Apilarnil was determined by ferric ions (Fe 3 + ), cupric ions (Cu 2 + ) and Fe 3 + -TPTZ, reducing methods. The reduction ability of Apilarnil is summarised in Table 2.…”

“…One of the current methods for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus is to inhibit the enzyme α ‐glycosidase. One of the current methods to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus is to inhibit the α‐ glycosidase enzyme [37–39] . Carbonic anhydrases are a very large family of metalloenzymes containing Zn 2+ ions that catalyze the reversible conversion of carbon dioxide and water to protons and bicarbonate in all living organisms.…”
