Seedling, early vegetative, and adult plant growth of oilseed rapes (Brassica napus L.) under saline stress

Abstract: Salinity is a major limiting factor for early crop establishment and yield. In this study, 131 Brassica napus genotypes were evaluated for germination and early seedling growth in Murashige & Skoog medium supplemented with NaCl. Selected genotypes were then evaluated for tolerance to salinity at the vegetative and reproductive stages in greenhouse and semi-hydroponic systems using 1.4, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 28 dS m−1 salt stress. Relative salt tolerance (RST) was calculated and compared with genotype performa… Show more

“…131 Brassica napus genotypes were evaluated at these stages for glucosinolates with 0, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and 350 mM NaCl concentration. It was concluded in this study that salt stress genotype should be selected at different stages as it is a developmental phenomenon for improvement of canola genotype productivity [21].…”

“…If the test of variance obtained significantly different treatments, then the Tukey distance test of 0.5% was carried out. 15 The characteristics observed were total sugar content, 16 chlorophyll a, b, total, 17 proline, [18][19][20][21] super peroxidase dismutase (SOD), 22 peroxidase dismutase (POD), 23 APX enzyme, 24 and hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ). 22 A step-by-step description of the procedure to analyze sugar content, proline, chlorophyll a, b, total, SOD, POD, H2O2 and APX has been deposited in prototocol.io and is available at dx.doi.org/10.17504/protocols.io.5jyl8je1dg2w/v1.…”

“…Physiological characteristics that arise due to plant activities in certain environments are observable and enable growth and development. The accumulation of osmoprotectants is a key biochemical property in plants tolerant to abiotic stress, 10,21 and there is clear evidence that osmotic adjustment sustains crop yields under drought stress. 9 Drought stress causes changes in amino acid metabolism.…”

“…capitata L.), kale ( B. oleracea var. acephala DC), and E. sativa were elicited by NaCl in a dose-dependent manner ( Cocetta et al, 2018 ; Linic et al, 2019 ; Samec et al, 2021 ), and different rapeseed ( B. napus L.) genotypes also showed varying levels of GSL accumulation ( Gyawali et al, 2019 ). However, the GSL content decreased under high NaCl concentrations in red radish ( R. sativus L.) (<500 mM) ( Chen et al, 2018 ), and D. tenuifolia (130 mM) ( Petretto et al, 2019 ).…”
