Selection Strategy of Drought Tolerance of Red Rice Mutant Lines

Abstract: Most of Indonesian red rice is not grown in dry land. New varieties could be breeded through mutation breeding. This research objective was to evaluate the selection strategy of drought tolerant on red rice. The study was conducted on Ultisol soil in Bangka Belitung Province, Indonesia, in February 2012-February 2015. It consisted of three activities, selection M5, evaluation of selected M5 and evaluation of drought critical period on selected M6. Mutant of M5 was selected and evaluated with polyethylene glyco… Show more

“…Moreover, 600 Gy produced the highest anthocyanin in rosella (Hisbiscus sabdariffa) (El Sherif, Khattab, Ghoname, Salem, & Radwan, 2011). Genetic variability both morphology and biochemical substance can be used to select expected lines which have good characters (Mustikarini, Ardiarini, Basuki, & Kuswanto, 2017).…”

“…But, it is not recommended that the selection of local line of Bambara groundnut to be based on quantitative characters. The selection strategy should be able to single out genotype which has excellent genes and is still expressed in every condition (Mustikarini, Ardiarini, Basuki, & Kuswanto, 2017). The other characters had high response to environment and controlled by polygenic.…”

“…The selection method using stress in the critical period obtained the M5-GR150-1-9-13 line of red rice that was drought tolerant (Mustikarini et al 2016). Drought stress applied to the booting stage showed the most significant effect on decreasing various parameters of the selection of drought-tolerant rice lines (Mustikarini et al 2017).…”
