Objective: To obtain the effectiveness of propolis fluoride application in inhibiting dental caries activity. Methods:The study was included 170 children aged 6-9 years old with active dentinal carries surface was 532 tooth surfaces, all of 532 tooth surface will applicate use propolis fluoride in school children at primary school SD Kukusan. Evaluation of the amount of dentinal caries lesion that has been arrested was conducted after 1 month, 2 months, and 4 months after topical application. Results:After propolis fluoride applicated shows, that the activated process caries of dentinal caries lesion after 1 month was found in 104 tooth surfaces, 2 months were 115 tooth surfaces, and after 4 months evaluated were found significant increase to be 226 tooth surfaces on dentinal caries activated from 2 nd to 4 th month after application propolis fluoride (p<0.01). The percentages of arrested caries in, respectively, for 1 st month after the application is 99.80%, 2 nd month application is 78.32%, and in the 4 th month is 57.52% while the score plaque of school children was decline significantly until 36.5% (p<0.05) after 4 months intervention by tooth brushing every week at school. Conclusion:The application of propolis fluoride is effective in inhibiting dentinal caries lesion activity, has the advantage of making no black discoloration to the teeth.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate mineral content of root canal dentin after treatment with different antibiotic pastes including the mixture of metronidazole, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline, cefaclor, amoxicillin, or minocycline. Fifty extracted maxillary canine teeth were randomly divided into five groups (n = 10 teeth for each group). Root canals were prepared Reciproc rotary files. Canals were irrigated using 5 ml 5% NaOCl and 1 ml 15% EDTA. Each tooth in all groups were longitudinally splitted into two pieces as a control and experimental samples. Each experimental group received following antibiotic paste; double antibiotic paste (DAP) and triple antibiotic paste with doxycycline (TAPd), TAP with cefaclor (TAPc), TAP with amoxicillin (TAPa), and TAP with minocycline (TAPm) for 21 days. The Ca, P, Mg, Ca, and K levels, and the Ca/P ratio was analyzed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped using a Bruker energydispersive X-Ray (EDX) detector. Data were analyzed with independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Duncan tests. Ca and Ca/P ratio showed a statistically significant increase TAP with amoxicillin and cefaclor (p < .05). DAP, TAPd, and TAPm did not change the mineral levels (p > .05). TAPa and TAPc with increased the Ca level and Ca/P ratio of the root canal dentin which consequently positively influences the revascularization process.

The accumulation of waste from sea food industries poses hazards to aquatic life and environment. The shells of crustaceans, which constitute a major chunk of the sea food waste, are the source of chitin, a valuable polysaccharide. The physiochemical properties of chitin make it suitable for several applications, viz. in medical science, waste water treatment, food preservation etc. To explore its potential in uncharted domains, it is desired that this polymer is available in abundance. Chitin can be extracted from the marine sea food waste by chemical or biological methods. Owing to the higher efficiency and short processing time of the chemical method in the recovery of chitin from the marine biomass waste, this method has been adopted in industries in spite of its adverse impact on the environment. On the contrary, the eco-friendly biological method is still restricted to the research laboratories. In view of this, we aim to provide an overview on the sources and physicochemical properties of chitin/chitosan and discuss the methods of their extraction and applications. As the impetus to green technologies in chitin extraction would be beneficial to the environment, this review highlights the advantages of biological methods of chitin extraction over the chemical methods. Though the biological method of chitin extraction offers a wider choice of enzymes or microorganisms in the fermentation processes, it is not without challenges. There is a need to increase the efficiency of the biological process of chitin extraction to make it a key process to harvest the high value biopolymer from marine waste without any damage to the environment and to explore its utility for the welfare of mankind.
