Service-oriented computing in manufacturing automation: A SWOT analysis

Abstract: Service-oriented Computing (SOC) is being applied in industrial manufacturing automation to face the current demand for modular, flexible and reconfigurable solutions. Highlighted from the other existing methodologies, SOC may carry an alternative but natural solution to design and engineer manufacturing automation systems and consequently the ability to seamless integrate into the modern IT-enterprise. However, SOC still has a long way to be adopted by industrial solutions, mainly fulfilling the particulariti… Show more

“…The goal of every studies is to determine the main internal and external components which are critical to achieving the goal. Internal characteristics are connected to strengths and weaknesses, whereas external variables are related to opportunities and challenges (Mendes et al, 2011;Keleş et al, 2018). This analysis is evaluted-applied and complied from the opions of the experts of this manuacturing systems, the literatür of this scientific field and opions of the aıuthor.…”

“…An important drawback of using SOC is how to effective decompose a given application into services and if the decomposition should be different depending on the set of available services. These open questions impede the integration of SOC in production automation engineering [17].…”
