Skin wound healing presents a unique challenge because of its complex healing process. Herein, we developed a hydrophobic wound dressing to incorporate simvastatin, which has potential application in the treatment of ulcers and prevention of wound infection. For that matter, collagen hydrogels were grafted with dodecenylsuccinic anhydride (DDSA). The chemical modification was confirmed by FTIR and solid state 13C‐NMR spectroscopies while the ultrastructure was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) images. In contact angle measurements, a higher water droplet angle in DDSA‐collagen gels was observed. This was consistent with the swelling assay, in which water absorption was 5.2 g/g for collagen and 1.9 g/g for DDSA‐collagen. Additionally, viability and adhesion studies were performed. Cell adhesion decreased ~11% in DDSA‐collagen and the number of viable cells showed a tendency to decrease as DDSA concentration increased but it was only significantly lower above concentrations of 12%. Modified gels were loaded with simvastatin showing higher adsorption capacity and lower release. Lastly, the antimicrobial and anti‐inflammatory activity of DDSA‐collagen materials were assessed. DDSA‐collagen hydrogels, either unloaded or loaded with simvastatin showed sustained antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus for 72 hr probably due to the hydrophobic interaction of DDSA chains with bacterial cell walls. The antimicrobial activity was stronger against S. aureus. Collagen hydrogels also presented a prolonged antibacterial activity when they were loaded with simvastatin, confirming the antimicrobial properties of statins. Finally, it was observed that these materials can stimulate resident macrophages and promote an M2 profile which is desirable in wound healing processes.

All ACE inhibitors have a similar antihypertensive efficacy -they effectively block the conversion of angiotensin 1 to angiotensin II -and all have similar therapeutic indications, adverse effect profiles and contraindications. Mechanism of actionThese inhibitors block the converting enzyme of angiotensin, which is responsible for cleavage from angiotensin I, which is decapeptide, to angiotensin II, which is octapeptide [17,18], and lower the BP by reducing PVR (peripheral vascular resistance). They also decrease aldosterone secretion and the resulting sodium and water retention. PharmacokineticsThe oral bioavailability of ACE inhibitors ranges from 13% to 95% [19,20]. Most ACE inhibitors are administered as pro-drugs that remain inactive until esterified in the liver [21]. Pharmakokinetic characteristics of different ACE inhibitors are given in Therapeutic useACE inhibitors are effective in patients with mild to moderately severe hypertension, normal or low plasma renin activity, collagen vascular disease and cardiovascular disease [22,23]. They are also used in the prevention and treatment of myocardial infarction [24,25] and in the management of cardiac arrhythmias [26]. They can decrease the progression of atherosclerosis, microalbuminuria and diabetic retinopathy, and produce a beneficial effect in patients with Bartter's syndrome [27]. Adverse effectsACE inhibitors have a relatively low incidence of side effects and are well tolerated; however, dry cough is common, appearing in 10-30% of patients. This appears to be related to the elevation in bradykinin [28][29][30]. Hypotension is seen especially in patients with heart failure [31], angiooedema (life-threatening airway swelling and obstruction; 0.1-0.2% of patients) and hyperkalaemia. ACE inhibitors are contraindicated in pregnancy, in the first trimester associated with a risk of major congenital malformations, particularly affecting the cardiovascular and central nervous systems [32]. The most common (≥1% of patients) adverse effects HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins)3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitors (statins) are the most effective among all hypolipidaemic agents [50]. These lipid-lowering drugs are increasingly used for primary and secondary hindrance of cardiovascular disease [51]; they have only been recognized for treatment of hyperlipidaemia. In clinical studies, statins are highly effective in enhancing HDL levels while reducing total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B and triglyceride levels.The normal treatment regimen for these drugs involves daily exposure over a period of many years [52,53]. They have also been examined in combination with cures of multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease and dropping the superfluous increased occurrence in CHD in women on HRT treatment [54]. A novel reversed-phase liquid chromatographic method with UV detection for rapid and accurate simultaneous quantitation of prazosin (PRZ) and the key calcium channel blockers (CCBS), amlodipine besylate (AML), diltiazem hydrochloride (DIL) and verapamil hydrochloride (VER) in active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical dosage formulations and human serum has been developed and validated according to ICH guidelines. The reduced run time and low cost of analysis are additional merits of the method. This method showed the best resolution by using pre-packed Nucleosil® C 18 (10 μm, 25 × 0.46 cm) column at ambient temperature. The mobile phase consisting of methanol:water:acetonitrile (55:35:10 v/v; pH adjusted to 2.65 with phosphoric acid) was pumped at a flow rate of 1.0 mL min-1 with an average operating pressure of 130 kg/cm 2 and effluent was monitored at 238 nm. Linearity of the method in the concentration range 5-100 μg mL-1 for prazosin and 10-600 μg mL-1 for calcium channel blockers showed good linear relationships for all the analytes (R 2 < 0.9998).
