Simultaneous separation and purification of flavonoids and oleuropein from Olea europaea L. (olive) leaves using macroporous resin

Abstract: This extraction and purification method could be used in the large-scale enrichment or purification of flavonoids, oleuropein and other polyphenols from O. europaea L. leaves or other herbal materials in industrial, food processing and medical manufacture.

“…The correlation coefficients (0.9632-0.9988) of both Langmuir and Freundlich equations for VOG and VOR absorbed on HPD-400 resin are notably high, which suggests that the models are suitable for describing the tested adsorption system in the studied concentration range. The adsorption is commonly considered likely to occur when 1/n is between 0.1 and 0.5 in the Freundlich equation [28]. In Table 2, all values of 1/n are in the range of 0.1891-0.2384, which demonstrates that VOG and VOR can be easily adsorbed by the HPD-400 resin.…”

“…Olive leaves represent about 10% of the harvest weight and contain higher concentrations of antioxidants than the other parts of the plant [380,381]. Traditionally, polyphenols of olive leaves are extracted by maceration.…”

“…[29][30][31][32][33] The values of the coefficient of recovery (P) and the relative standard deviation (RSD) in the experiments were 93.46 and 0.35 %, respectively, which indicates that the accuracy and precision satisfy the needs of the experiment.…”

“…[26][27][28] We are interested in modifying the functional groups on the MARs upon adsorption and have shown that MARs are good candidates for the separation of active compounds from natural plants. [29][30][31][32] A capillary effect was also found in the process of adsorption. [33] In order to investigate the adsorption features of MARs, a series of MARs functionalized with chloromethyl and amino groups was synthesized, and they produced higher adsorption capacity than the original ones.…”
