Sindrome De Fenilquetonuria Materna, Un Nuevo Desafío Para Chile

Abstract: INTRODUCCIÓN La Fenilquetonuria (PKU, OMIM 261600) es una patología hereditaria, autosómica recesiva, ocasionada por el defecto de la enzima fenilalanina hidroxilasa que metaboliza el aminoácido esencial fenilalanina (FA), a tirosina (Tir). A consecuencia de este defecto las concentraciones plasmáticas de FA y sus metabolitos se elevan hasta niveles tóxicos, causando retraso mental, convulsiones, trastornos del aprendizaje y problemas emocionales en individuos sin tratamiento.
